This course deals with the details of protocols and technologies of both LANs and WANs, with
emphasis on LAN related protocols. Topics discussed include OSI and TCP/IP stacks, LAN
technologies, VLANs, internetworking, routing, transport layer services and functions,
performance issues, application services and protocols, and network architecture. A weekly Lab.
Familiarizes the students with network equipment, wiring, architecture and configuration

Principles of operating systems. A historical perspective of how operating systems evolved, processes and threads, CPU scheduling, inter-process communication and synchronization, deadlock handling, memory paging and segmentation, virtual memory management, disk organization and scheduling.

Essential Internet protocols: ARP, IP, ICMP, IGMP, UDP, TCP, routing protocols such as RIP, OSPF and BGP, multicasting and multicast routing protocols such as DVMRP, MOSPF and PIM, application protocols such as DNS, DHCP, FTP and HTTP.
